Is Bee Venom a Natural Botox?
Bee Venom is the new beauty secret, a powerful anti-ageing ingredient. It is actually a toxic substance that is released from the bee when it stings. When applied to the skin, bee venom tricks it into responding like it has been stung so the body sends healing properties to the site such as collagen and blood. This plumps up the skin and, ultimately, makes it look younger.
Often called nature’s Botox we were interested to see how effective bee venom can be. These products don’t go under the skin like botox so when applied topically, there is only so much this special ingredient can do. But when in a skincare formulation there is the benefits of the other properties in the cream too such as moisturisation.
We recently discovered the Kanu range of Bee Venom products made in New Zealand from Aotearoa Bee Venom. Their high strength bee venom formulation has been scientifically proven to deliver anti-aging benefits and is trademarked Vetox(TM). Developed by Professor Holt, who has a pharmaceutical background, it is unique to the Kanu range, 100% natural and is collected from the companies own hives. This means they can be sure of the health, care and sustainability of their bees in the collection process and also the integrity of the ingredient.
The serum comes boxed and in a pump applicator making it hygienic and convenient. The packaging is premium and luxurious suggesting a quality product. The formulation is a clear, pale yellow gel that is light to apply to the skin and absorbs really well. A small amount goes a long way.
What really impresses us about this product is the very short ingredients list – it gives you everything you need and nothing you don’t. There are only five ingredients in this product that include the active ingredients of Bee Venom and Kanuka Honey, water and a polymer as the carrier for the active ingredients and a preservative to ensure that the integrity of the product is maintained. It is a simple and pure product which we believe are often the most effective and the key ingredients are from New Zealand.
This product is a pleasure to apply. It instantly rejuvenates and tightens the skin so I felt fresh faced straight away. We tried all of the Kanu products and the serum stands out as the must have product in the collection. I really enjoyed this product the most out of their range so much so that I had to take it on a recent long haul flight with me taking up precious baggage space. It was the perfect revitaliser in the dry air and after a lack of sleep. The bee venom provides the lifting sensation and the kanuka honey provides great moisturisation. My skin looked fresh and uplifted after application, the initial effect was surprisingly quick.
Ongoing use is supposed to stimulate collagen production so it is worth giving this product a chance and trying it for the long term. I’ve been using it for two weeks now and have no intention to stop.
Value for Money
The product is pricey at NZD $59 for a 15ml container but in terms of value for money, a little really does go a long way and the product is wonderfully simple yet effective. We would be prepared to pay this price to continue using the product but it is a little pricey for 15mls.
Overall, this is an innovative New Zealand brand founded in science to ensure a product with efficacy and a pleasant usage experience. Also in the range is a Lip Pumper, Eye Lifter Gel and Face Gel. We will review more of the Kanu Bee Venom range later in the year.
